Guiding Students

This past year I have done community service, in the form of 'shadows' at my high school, North Broward. A 'shadow' is a student that is considering attending North Broward. The person is assigned a high school student to spend a day with. I was assigned various shadows last year and it was a great experience. Coincidentally, I was a shadow a little over a year ago, so I know what it's like to be on the other end of the shadowing. I was very nervous about school originally, but shadowing another student allowed me to feel accepted and less nervous. It was very helpful, and it is one of the reasons that I chose North Broward. While I feel that I definitely helped my shadows and North Broward with my work, I feel that I should contribute more to my community. I feel that helping students isn't enough, and I have to contribute more. I'd like to volunteer with the Boy's and Girl's club eventually, hopefully involving basketball. Basketball is one of my passions, and I would like to expose younger kids to the sport. I feel that basketball can help teach good character and values, so I want to help kids through basketball.
If you're like me, and would like to volunteer somewhere, check out the Boy's and Girl's club.
